“For whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.” 1 John 3:20 (ESV)
i love trivia. i get temporary fulfillment from knowing a correct answer to a meaningless question, and if i dont know the answer ill immediately look it up. i love to know.
we as a collective species are hardwired to learn. from birth we are thrust into a world full of knowledge, ready to be absorbed and to mold our pliable minds. we’ve been taught that knowledge is power and in contrast to that the lack of knowledge is a sign of weakness.
our natural fear of weakness translates directly to a fear of not knowing. but we arent meant to be all-knowing. we were created in the image of an omniscient God, but we are not God. if God had meant for us to know all he would have provided us with the ability to do so. He didnt.
if we knew everything then faith, the basis of Christianity, would be pointless. we would have no reason seek His face, no reason to cultivate a personal relationship with our God.
when we work towards knowing God he will reveal himself to us. it wont be completely. we cant handle God in his full divine form. thats why we must go against our nature and accept that we may not be able explain God in our inferior human terms. our minds arent made to know completely. no matter how hard we may try to quantify God into earthly expression we will undoubtedly fail. we must exhibit faith. And in our faith and seeking God will show himself in ways we may not even realize. His presence will be ubiquitous through our actions and thoughts. we will be consumed.
“In making Himself known to us He stays by the familiar pattern of personality. He communicates with us through the avenues of our minds, our wills and our emotions.”
― A.W Tozer
Lord let us find peace in the fact that we dont know. humble us God. reveal yourself as we seek You. amen.
